How a Stay-at-Home-Dad Lost 35 Pounds By Listening To Relaxation Music!

My name is Bruno Batista. I’m a regular guy, a stay-at-home-dad who struggled – and continue to struggle – with stress and anxiety. Less than a year ago, one event changed my life…

My inner drive and sense of purpose was fading. I began turning to food – comfort foods with lots of fat and sugar – as a way of instant gratification, which led me to put on “a few” extra pounds…

Initially, it felt great to stuff my face with ice cream and popcorn well into the night, but this form of “self-medicating” made me feel awful the next day.

our_bodies_change_our_mindsAfter a few years, I was in serious trouble! My blood pressure was high for a 35 year-old and I didn’t take the news well… It soon led to a very scary panic attack.

AND THEN EVERYTHING CHANGED. Some of my tips may sound simple, and they’re not secrets, but they are very important and often ignored.

Here are the top five tips that helped me lose 35 pounds in one year:

  1. Drink a glass of water as soon as I wake up. Drinking water first thing in the morning on an empty stomach purifies the body’s internal system. I now find myself craving less “bad” foods for breakfast.
  2. Put on my favorite pair of sneakers. This may sound silly, but putting on my sneakers straight away and getting dressed, even before I take a shower, is an incredible productivity technique! When barefoot, I’m lazier and you’ll find me wandering around the house aimlessly like a zombie. 🙂 With sneakers on, I’m more likely to do the next thing…
  3. Go for a 20-30 minute walk early in the morning while listening to an inspirational TED speech. Each TED Talk is limited to 18 minutes – perfect! It’s free knowledge and inspiration from the world’s greatest thinkers. When I focus my mind on inspirational thoughts, I discover that it starts to work subconsciously; and when the time comes, I find little bits of courage when I need them.
  4. No bread, no carbs after 7pm. I’m currently writing music for a documentary film, Carb Loaded: A Culture Dying To Eat, and when I met with the creators, they were quick to agree that indeed bread was one of the causes of my bloated appearance. Although it was difficult at first, I quenched my ravenous appetite for delicious Portuguese rolls with a simple yogurt and a handful of almonds.
  5. Listening to and writing my relaxation music. Not a shameless plug! After the anxiety attack, my doctor gave me two choices: prescription medication, or alternative relaxation and stress management techniques. So I did what I’ve been putting off doing my entire life – writing Mindscape Meditation music became my 6-minute break from worry, without turning to a bag of chips that made me regret it in the morning.

A few days after creating Mindscape Meditation, my company Timing Within was born. Shortly after that, I had lost 35 pounds along with many other amazing life-transformations that I will post about soon…
